Current Major Conflict between Religions

This was inspired by a recent (textual) facebook posting someone sent me:

As they say, clearly Islam is the Religion of Peace....

Notes:
  • This is about conflicts where religion is a factor. Although Christians are now fighting Christians in the Ukraine that is a purely nationalistic struggle, in contrast say to the multiple instances of religious conflict between Shia Muslims and Sunni Muslims.
  • Although there have been violent conflicts between Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs in India there is no current major violence.

Thanks for this. But is it really true, just as an aside, that no Muslim can be a citizen of Japan?

There does not seem to be a definitive answer to this. Typical of the reports I have seen is this one:

There are 30 mosques in Japan but this does not contradacit the claim about citizenship as those mosques are for foreign residents and workers.

The key point is that Japan does not encourage immigration generally and there are extremely few Muslim citizens

A friend of mine pointed out that the chart isn't accurate because of the number of places that Christians are persecuted. On 2nd look, I would have still included Atheist vs Christian because of China's open hostility to Christianity. Or, in the scope of the chart, would you have called that a nationalistic struggle?

  4. to newsmythe: the Christians are being persecuted and killed by Muslims in many places (but that can only be represented by a single red square in the chart). Atheist v Christian in China does not involved 'major current violence' as specified for the chart.
